New Community E Note 2 25 2022
The Spiritual Growth and Discipleship Committee will meet tomorrow morning (Saturday February 26) at 11:30 AM in the same classroom that we use for our Sunday fellowship gathering. Although they have met on Zoom a couple of times, this will be their first “face to face” meeting since the pandemic began. The committee is responsible for our worship, mission and spiritual growth opportunities and will review and discuss our thrift store, Wednesday and Saturday meal, Sunday worship and hospitality opportunities. We will also have a conversation around upcoming changes in our online and in person worship and equipment changes and strategies for implementing the plan.
Our Wednesday night meal provided a hot dinner to 101 guests this week. They enjoyed “green sauce” chicken with potatoes, carrots and peppers along with a green salad, corn and an orange. The prior week 104 guests enjoyed macaroni and cheese with a salad, green beans and dessert. The “to go” dinner is served between 5 and 6 with some of the deliveries leaving shortly before 5. Thanks to all who continue to help cook, serve and deliver.
Wednesday’s snow and ice affected the thrift store sales as customer traffic was much lighter than normal. However, sales and expenses continue to be “on budget” for the year and we continue to welcome good, clean saleable merchandise. Our drop off hours are Monday through Saturday from 8 AM to 2 PM. We continue to sort and hang clothes on Tuesdays from 9:30 to noon and all day Wednesday and Saturday and welcome your help whenever it fits your schedule.
We understand some of you are having trouble connecting to the worship recording on our website. We think it is possible that you just need to “refresh” the link. In any case, Kent has added a link directly to the most recent recording. It is Sunday Worship | New Community United Methodist Church (newcommunityumc.net). The recording is generally available by noon on Sunday. On Wednesday, he will post the order of worship for the upcoming Sunday on this link if you want to take a look at the scriptures or mark the hymns.
Thanks to all who are continuing to make gifts to our capital campaign to replace the thrift store roof and paint the exterior of the building. We will give you a “February update” in our next enote.
I hope to see you in church or online this Sunday. Our order of service is available on our Sunday Worship page of the website. Or click here!
As always, thanks for all you do help live out our mission of seeking justice, embracing diversity and changing hearts. With appreciation,
Pastor Jim
